How to eFile Income Tax Returns with incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in?
Step 1: Login to the income tax website and you will find the below screen. If you are a new user, click on the ‘register yourself’ section highlighted in red.
Step 2: As a next step, select the user type from the drop-down depending on which category you fall under. Make sure that you select the correct category as the next steps would be impacted by the same.
Step 3: Enter the basic details such as Surname, PAN, date of birth, etc. The PAN will be the user id which will be used post successful registration to login to the income tax website.
Step 4: Once the taxpayer has entered the basic details, they need to set up the password on the ‘registration form’ screen along with the security questions. Most of the time taxpayers will forget their password and they can recover the same through the security questions.
Step 5: Enter your mobile number and email ID. Put in your personal email ID and phone numberPlease, make sure that you do not provide the company email ID because these contact details will be used by the IT department for all further communications.
Step 6: Enter your present and permanent address details:
Step 7: Once the above information is entered correctly, the website will then verify the taxpayer’s PAN from their database and display the transaction ID and the contact details.
Step 8: If a correct email address is mentioned while filing the form, an activation link will be shared on the same email address. The link needs to be activated by clicking on the same.
Login into your incometaxindiaefiling portal
Once the taxpayer has registered successfully, they can now login into their income tax account. The taxpayer can follow the below steps:
Step 1: Login to the incometaxefiling website and click on ‘login here’.
Step 2: Once the taxpayer clicks on the login page, they will be directed to the below screen. In order to login, the required fields are to be entered correctly. In case the taxpayer has forgotten his or her password, they can reset the same by clicking on ‘forgot password’.
How to view and download your Form 26AS?
In order to view and download the Form 26AS, the user can login to their income tax portal and follow the necessary steps to view and download the same. Form 26AS is a tax statement that allows the taxpayer to view the tax deduction on their PAN. The statement also shows the tax refund is given to the taxpayer for a financial year along with the details of the tax collected at the source.
How to Retrieve your Income Tax Login Credentials?
Income tax filing is a one-time task that is to be done once for the previous financial year. Despite the advancement in technology, it is still very natural for taxpayers to forget their income tax password. Taxpayers find it difficult to find any detailed information w.r.t reset their income tax login credentials. The taxpayer can follow the below steps in order to retrieve their login credentials:
Step 1: Log in to incometaxefiling website
Step 2: Post step 1, click on the ‘login now’ button.
Step 3: Once the taxpayer clicks on ‘login here’, they can find the forgot password option at the bottom of the screen clicking on which will lead them to the below screen. Now, copy the user id and captcha code to proceed further
Step 4: Once you provide your User ID and captcha code, you will be directed to the ‘Reset Password’ dialog box. Now, select any one option from the drop-down list and provide mandatory details.
The drop-down list has the following:
- Answer Secret Question
- Upload DSC
- Using OTP
- Using Aadhaar OTP
The income tax department offers the above options in order to reset the taxpayer’s password:
In this option, the taxpayer has been provided an option to answer their primary and secondary secret questions which they had answered at the time of registration. This option won’t be of any help if you don’t know the answer to the secret questions
In this option, the taxpayer can use their unique registered digital signature(DSC) and login to their e-filing account. They need to attach their DSC and enter the required password in order to reset the password. OR
In this option, the taxpayer can use OTP (One time password) sent to their registered mobile number and email ID and change the password.
In this option, the taxpayer has the option to reset their registered mobile number and registered email id by providing some additional information as below:
- TDS/TCS Deduction Details of last 2 assessment years
- Tax Payment Details – BSR code, Challan Date, and Challan Sequence Number. These are the details of tax payment in the last 3 Assessment years
- Bank Account Number mentioned in last year’s income tax return.
After doing the same from any of the above options, the taxpayer will be able login to the income tax portal.
The taxpayer can also access his income tax department portal by entering the OTP shared with them on Aadhar registered mobile number. This option won’t work unless the registered number at UIDAI and the income tax portal are the same.
Post resetting the password with either of the options above, the taxpayer can access their portal.
