In today’s era, the advancements in the digital world have made banking and financial operations very easy and handy. With emerging technology, banks have initiated several ways to check bank account balance. One can check their account balance on their phone or computer without going to the bank.

In this article, we will provide you with a guide for the different methods to check your bank account balance.

How to check my account balance?

To check your bank account balance, you must keep in mind the following things.

  •  Firstly, your mobile number should be registered with the bank.
  •  The mobile number should be active to receive and send SMS and call.
  •  Having a smartphone is preferable. The reason is, with an active internet connection, you can use different apps like banking apps or UPI apps.
  • You should also have your ATM or debit card activated with your bank account
  • Also, internet banking should be activated by your bank.

Keeping these things in place, you can check your bank account balance anywhere and anytime. The various ways to check bank account balance are as follows –

 SMS

One of the quickest ways to check your account balance is by sending a text message. You don’t have to log in on a website, nor do you need a smartphone for it. Most of the banks provide this facility to the account holders. Once the bank extends this facility, you can request a quick balance update anytime. The account balance details are received in the form of a text message. The automatic message alerts should be on. You will receive instant notifications whenever there is a financial transaction happening on your account. Also, you will receive the latest balance update. This facility provided by banks is called message alert service. This sends push notifications to your phone.

Passbook

Usually, banks issue passbooks to everyone on account opening. The passbook contains information about all the transactions in your account. To check your account balance, you can open your passbook. You can see the list of all debit and credit transactions. Hence, it’s essential to keep your passbook updated every time. However, to update your passbook, you need to visit the bank each time. 

ATM cum debit card

You can also check your account balance through an ATM. They also provide the updated account balance. By visiting the nearby ATM, you can insert the ATM card or debit card and follow the on-screen instructions. It is suggestible to use your own bank’s ATM or an ATM network which your bank uses. Usually, other ATMs charge fees even if you don’t withdraw cash. Also, your bank may charge additional fees if you use a foreign ATM. To check balance over a foreign ATM can be chargeable.

  • Swipe the ATM cum debit card

  • Select the “Balance Enquiry Option.”

Currently, RBI has put a limitation on the number of free transactions per ATM card. Even a balance enquiry is counted as a transaction. Once you exhaust the free transactions, you will have to pay a transaction charge for every transaction in that month. 

Hence, it is advisable to use ATM cards for cash withdrawals or other services only. You can use mobile or different online ways to check bank account balances which are convenient and cost-effective. 

Net banking

You can also check your account balance through the net banking facility. To use this facility, you need to login to the official website of the concerned bank from your phone. In simple words, you need to visit your bank’s official website and access your account information. 

If you are visiting for the first time, you need to register yourself by clicking on links like ‘register’ or ‘first time user’. Going head, you can use the option ‘login’ to access your bank account. With the net banking facility, you can check your account balance online anytime. Additionally, it enables you to perform several banking functions and transaction facilities.

UPI Apps 

This is one of the simplest ways to check account balance. You have to download the UPI app through your app store or play store.

  • After downloading the app, start the registration process. 
  • Enter the mobile number linked to your bank and generate OTP. 
  • After you receive the OTP, you can log in to the app and add the bank account details.
  • Usually, UPI automatically detects the account connected to your mobile number. 
  • Here, it displays the last four digits of your account number. 
  • After confirmation, it will generate a new UPI ID. 
  • After verification, it activates a UPI passcode of your choice.

Here onwards, you can continue to use your UPI app to check your bank account balance. Also, you can use this app to make financial transactions.

Mobile Banking

Devices like mobile phones, tablets make it easy to check on bank accounts anytime. In this digital generation, banks are providing apps and websites (designed for mobile devices) and other ways to check bank account balance. Also, there are different banking functions that you can avail of on mobile banking apps.  For example, some banks allow you to deposit cheques with your mobile device. Thus, mobile banking enables you to do more than you can do from your desktop.

However, the phone banking facility is different from mobile banking. It offers similar services like mobile banking. But, it is not compulsory to have a smartphone to use phone banking services. 

How to check my bank account balance in SBI?

SBI bank provides various banking services to its SBI customers. You can check your account balance, receive a mini statement, and perform multiple bank transactions. The following are the different ways to check the SBI account balance.

SBI Missed call and SMS Toll-free Number

  • To check account balance, Customers can give a missed to SBI balance enquiry toll-free number, i.e. 9223766666. Otherwise, send SMS “BAL” to 9223766666
  • To get a mini statement, customers can give a missed SBI number, i.e. 9223866666. Otherwise, send SMS “MSTMT” to 9223866666

SBI ATM

Customers having an SBI account can also use an ATM card for checking the available balance in the account. you need to visit the State bank of India ATM and follow the below steps

  • Swipe the SBI ATM cum debit card
  • Enter the 4 digit ATM pin
  • Select the “Balance Enquiry Option.”
  • Complete the transaction

Also, choosing the “Mini Statement” option, you can check your recent ten transactions. The SBI ATM will print a receipt of the previous ten transactions from your account. The SBI holders can also visit any other ATM to check their account balance. 

SBI Net Banking

The SBI account holders can check their account balance online through the net banking facility. You can log in to your SBI net banking account by using the login ID and password.  Typically, online net banking provides a wide range of facilities to its customers. SBI SMS Service 

SBI customers can register their mobile number with the bank account. After this, they need to register for the SMS service, and they can check their account balance. The following is the SMS format to register.

SBI will send a confirmation message. You can now use this service to check SBI account balance, mini statement, cheques book request, and many more. 

SBI Card Balance Enquiry

The SBI bank credit card users can check the balance and other details by sending an SMS. You can get information by sending an SMS to 5676791 in the below format.

  • For balance enquiry – BAL XXX

SBI Passbook

When opening an account with State Bank of India, it provides a passbook to every account holder. You can update the passbook by visiting the bank. It helps you check all the transactions and the latest account balance. 

SBI Mobile Banking

SBI offers mobile banking services to its customers through different mobile apps. These apps are SBI Anywhere, SBI Quick, SBI Online, and SBI Anywhere Saral. How to check my bank account balance in PNB Bank?

Punjab National Bank provides various banking services to its PNB customers. You can check your account balance, receive a mini statement, and perform multiple bank transactions. The following are the different ways to check your PNB account balance. 

PNB Net Banking

PNB account holders can check their account balance through the net banking facility. You can register with the net banking facility when you open an account with PNB bank. You can log in to your PNB net banking account by using the “User ID” and password.  After logging in, you need to select “Account Summary” from the dashboard or the menu at the top. This gives your current account balance summary. 

Also, you can register for the PNB e-statements facility through net banking. Online net banking provides a wide range of facilities to its customers. For instance, the facilities include balance enquiry, fund transfer, etc. 

PNB Mobile Banking

Punjab National Bank offers mobile banking services to its customers with its few active apps. These apps help you to do online transactions as well as check your account balance. PNB mPassbook 

PNB provides an e-passbook facility to the account holders to check their account balance. The app will help you view mini statements and detailed statements. Also, it enables you to save a detailed statement on your mobile phone. 

PNB MobiEase 

PNB MobiEase enables its users to facilitate SMS Banking, USSD Banking, or Missed Call Banking. This facility does not require 3G data, WiFi, or internet connectivity. However, this app is available for android users only. 

PNB SMS Banking

For PNB balance enquiry by SMS, account holders can send an SMS through their registered mobile number. The following is the SMS format to check the PNB account balance.

PNB Passbook

PNB Missed call Number

To check your PNB account balance, you can give a missed call to 18001802223(toll-free number) or 01202303090

However, this service is available only to customers who have registered their mobile number with PNB. After registration, you will receive SMS alerts. You can register your mobile number by visiting the nearest PNB branch. 

How to check my bank account balance in HDFC Bank?

HDFC Bank provides different banking services to its customers to make it more convenient. You can check your account balance, receive a mini statement, and perform multiple bank transactions. The following are the different ways to check your HDFC account balance. 

HDFC Missed Call Toll-free Number

  • To check account balance, Customers can give a missed to HDFC balance enquiry toll-free number, i.e. 18002703333
  • To get a mini statement, customers can give a missed call to HDFC number, i.e. 18002703355

The mobile number must be registered with the bank for SMS banking services. If the number is not registered, then you will receive a message that your number is not registered with HDFC Mobile Banking Services. 

How to register my number for HDFC balance enquiry by the Missed call?

For the HDFC balance enquiry service, you need to register for HDFC Missed Call Banking and SMS Banking. The following are the different ways to register for an HDFC account balance check. 

Registration through SMS

Account-holders can send the SMS from the registered mobile number in the below format.

SMS REGISTER <Customer ID> <Last 5 Digits of account number> to 5676712

The bank will register the number for SMS banking instantly. 

Registration through HDFC Net Banking

The following are the steps for registration through HDFC Net banking.

Registration through ATM

The following are the steps for registration by visiting the nearest HDFC Bank ATM.

HDFC Net Banking

HDFC account holders can check their account balance quickly through the net banking facility. You can log in to your HDFC net banking account by using the “Customer ID” and PIN.  After logging in, you need to select “Account Summary” from the dashboard.   • For balance enquiry – SMS “BAL” to 5676712
  • For mini statement – SMS “TXN” to 5676712

You will receive an SMS with the current account balance. 

HDFC Passbook

When you are opening an account with HDFC Bank, it provides a passbook to every account holder. You can update your passbook easily by visiting the nearest bank branch. It helps you check all the debit and credit transactions and the latest account balance. 

HDFC Bank ATM

Customers having HDFC bank accounts can use an ATM card for checking the available balance in the account. It is another convenient way by visiting the nearest HDFC ATM or any other bank ATM. You need to follow the below steps to check your HDFC bank account balance.

  • Enter the 4 digit HDFC ATM pin

How to check my bank account balance in Axis Bank?

Axis Bank provides caters to a large number of customers with several products and services with an array of facilities. These facilities include balance check, fund transfer, and many more. The following are the different ways to check your Axis bank account balance. 

Axis Bank Missed call

  • To check account balance, Customers can give a missed to Axis bank balance enquiry toll-free number, i.e.18004195959 and 18004195858 (for Hindi). 
  • To get a mini statement, customers can give a missed call to Axis Bank number, i.e. 18004196969 and 18004196868 (for Hindi)
  •  For instant mobile recharge, customers can give a missed call to the toll-free number, i.e. 08049336262.

To activate the mobile recharge service, give a missed call Type ACT and send it to  5676782.

The mobile number must be registered with the bank for SMS banking services. To register your mobile number for the SMS banking facility, you need to visit the nearest bank branch. 

Axis Bank Internet Banking

Axis bank account holders can check their account balance through the net banking facility. You can register for the net banking facility when you open an account with Axis bank. You can log in to your Axis net banking account by using the “User ID” and password. After logging in, you can check your account balance at the dashboard only. BOI mPassbook

BOI Mobile Banking

BOI offers mobile banking services to its national and international customers. The customer needs to have a smartphone mobile (android or IOS) device to download the app. The three leading apps which BOI has are BOI BTM, BOI StarToken, and BOI StarGlobal. These apps make it very convenient for the customers to check account balance.

BOI BTM and BOI StarToken offer the same facilities. You can log in to the app by using mobile banking credentials. These apps provide plenty of banking services like balance enquiry, funds transfer, mini statement, and many more. Facilities like NEFT, IMPS are also available. 

Similarly, the BOI Star Global app provides the same services. However, this app is for BOI customers that hold an account in overseas branches. 

BOI SMS Banking

For Bank of India account balance enquiry via SMS, account holders need to avail the Star Connect Mobile Banking on SMS facility. The following are the steps for the SMS banking facility. 

  • Visit the BOI website and click on the Mobile banking link.
  • Select the Star Connect Mobile Banking Link
  • Login using net banking credentials
  • Enter the mobile number registered
  • Click on “Set SMS password.”
  • Set a 4-digit SMS password

The following is the format for sending an SMS – 

  • For Balance enquiry, SMS “BAL XXXX Account Number” to +919810558585
  • For mini statements, SMS “TRANS XXXX Account Number” to +919810558585. You will receive the five transactions from your account. 

Here, XXXX is the four-digit SMS password set through the Star Connect Mobile banking Link.
