Paribas was formed in the year 1872. The merger was between Paribas or Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas S.A. Previously, BNP  and Paribas were separate entities till 2000. However, BNP and Paribas merged to form BNP Paribas. It is said to be the largest and oldest fund house in the world.

PNB Paribas was the second foreign bank to start its operation in India. Today, it is among one of the leading financial groups in India. BNP Paribas Group has been associated with India for about 160 years.
