L&T mutual funds emphasize being on superior long-term risk-adjusted-performance. They believe in checks and balances at every stage. They have a proprietary investment process called the GEM to do the same.
Analysts and fund managers actively participate in idea generation. They do extensive research about the company, industry, and how the current state of the economy affects it. They also interact with the companies, the issuers of securities, and have multiple team meetings and be a devil’s advocate to their ideas before choosing one.
In this stage of the process, a complete review of the company is done. Businesses profitability, attractiveness, competitive positioning, balance sheet strength, management track record, corporate governance, and valuations for equities. And, for fixed income, the issuer’s credibility analysis and macro analysis is done.
The fund manager invests in the ideas that have the most potential to yield a profitable return. They also continuously monitor the portfolio by checking if the existing asset allocation will fall under the objectives and risk profile of the fund. They may exit the script (or tweak asset allocation) if the price target has reached, or a better opportunity awaits or the business prospects weaken, or the macro policies change.
