Who is an NRI?

A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) is an Indian citizen currently living, working or studying outside India. It is a status associated with your tax obligations and therefore also called tax-status or tax-residency status. Not all Indians who live abroad are NRIs. You become an NRI only after living overseas/abroad for more than 240 days in a financial year and also meeting some other conditions.
